Dolls and Ceramics: Momoko, Picco Neemo, and Bunny Bowl

April 9, 2023 Megann Zabel
Momoko Picco Neemo Bunny Bowl Easter

This bowl was my first prototype using the bunny slip-casting mold to make rabbits as feet for a wheel-thrown bowl. I think it turned out pretty well. The bunny eyes are delicately painted with underglaze. The greenish glaze on the rim of the bowl is the recycled glaze from the spray booth at the studio. It ended up being a nice shade of green this time around.

The dolls pictured are Momoko (taller) and Picco Neemo (smaller). I can not recall too much about the details of each doll. I picked up most of the pieces from IFDC (International Fashion Doll Convention) years ago and some details were lost in the shopping fun. I remember the Momoko is rerooted with that awesome pastel hair. Picco Neemo was from the Azone table in the sales room at IFDC. I sure miss that convention.

Dolls and Ceramics: Vintage Skipper and The Bunny Bowl

April 7, 2023 Megann Zabel

A friend commissioned a challenge — a large serving bowl with cute bunnies around the edges. This is a part of my new ceramic series that combines vessels with objects from old slip-casting molds. I also made a Medusa pot in the same fashion. I picked up a couple bunny molds a few months ago and started using them just in time for Easter.

Typically, my ceramic work is pretty small. It was a nervous task to take on a big bowl. The bowl is a slab laid into a plaster mold. I slip-casted six bunnies and attached them to the bowl. After some careful drying of the bunny bowl, I added eyes with underglaze and bisqued the piece. I added a clear glaze and called it good. It’s a tad wobbly, but it is pretty decent for my first large prototype in this series.

The doll pictured is a vintage Skipper in a random bunny costume that, I think, was originally intended for a BJD. She’s wearing Momoko boots.
